Rev. John – aka Jon Ultvedt – origins from Halden, but is presently living in Skien, Telemark.

The musician, singer, song-writer, former pastor and missionary to Colombia, Rev. John – aka Jon Ultvedt – called ”The Blues Pastor” - was probably the only pastor with his own bluesband in Norway when he started.

He is now an established musician with his own band consisting of some of the veterans from the Norwegian Blues Scene.

Back in 1970 he was a young boy and had his first experience playing together with the well-known guitar player from Halden, Claes Neeb. At high school he led his own 12-piece band for a couple of years, but then he started to study theology – and his musical career was over even before it had begun.

Almost 30 years later – a sleepless night in Colombia, South America, “Rev. John” saw the blues light. He couldn’t sleep, and put Eric Clapton’s “Unplugged” into the cd-player. He programmed the player to play the cd repeatedly through the night. After that night “Rev. John” has never been the same. He got “converted” to the blues. He has not been able to leave the blue notes. A pastor and former missionary to Colombia touring with his own blues band has caused a mild sensation in many circles. The stir hasn’t been lessened by the fact that they perform just as naturally in blues clubs and pubs as in churches. “Rev. John” issued his first CD in 2002 – “Two-Fisted Pastor” – which is a revised version of Katie Webster’s “Two-Fisted Mama” (with kind permission from Bruce Iglauer and Alligator Records!). 2006 he issued the record “STRANGER” – together with his own band and several studio musicians. Among the musicians in the “Rev. John Band” you can find some of the veterans of the Norwegian Blues Scene – among them Trond Ytterbø. Rev. John Band has performed lots of times in churches as well as blues clubs – and created excitement all over.
